Moses

Part 8 – Finding that Smooth Path in Life

Exodus 4:18-31

Trust in the Lord with all your heart

    and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to him,

and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

1) Moses had to tell his his plans.

18 Then Moses went back to Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, “Let me return to my own people in Egypt to see if any of them are still alive.”

Jethro said, “Go, and I wish you well.” Exodus 4:18

  • When God calls you to a task that will impact those closest to you, it’s always a good idea to .

22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. Ephesians 5:22

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. Ephesians 5:25

  • When God reveals His calling in your life, next steps will , without being forced.

2) Moses determined to without hesitation or trepidation!

19 Now the Lord had said to Moses in Midian, “Go back to Egypt, for all those who wanted to kill you are dead.” 20 So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey and started back to Egypt. And he took the staff of God in his hand. Exodus 4:19-20

  • God knows your and too; nothing escapes His notice.

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

  • After initially offering God every excuse he could think of for why he was the wrong man for this task, Moses finally !
  • When we step out in faith to do His will, God, not only equips us, but He us!

21 The Lord said to Moses, “When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders I have given you the power to do. But I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go. Exodus 4:21

Why did God harden Pharaoh’s heart?

33 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! Romans 11:33.

  • Pharaoh was not an or godly man.
  • On at least a couple occasions, Pharaoh his own heart against letting the Israelites go, as we’ll see in Exodus 8.
  • It could be that, as a result of Pharaoh’s hard-heartedness, God hardened Pharaoh’s heart even further.

22 Then say to Pharaoh, ‘This is what the Lord says: Israel is my firstborn son, 23 and I told you, “Let my son go, so he may worship me.” But you refused to let him go; so I will kill your firstborn son.’” Exodus 4:22-23

How do you explain Moses’ confidence?

17 The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever. Isaiah 32:17

  • The result of following God’s will is and a calm !

3) Moses had been disobedient in one area of His life and God wanted that !

24 At a lodging place on the way, the Lord met Moses and was about to kill him. 25 But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son’s foreskin and touched Moses’ feet with it. “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me,” she said. 26 So the Lord let him alone. (At that time she said “bridegroom of blood,” referring to circumcision.) Exodus 4:24-26

  • God doesn’t want anything you and Him.

4) Moses was and God knew exactly what He needed!

27 The Lord said to Aaron, “Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.” So he met Moses at the mountain of God and kissed him. 28 Then Moses told Aaron everything the Lord had sent him to say, and also about all the signs he had commanded him to perform. Exodus 4:27-28

  • We all need and .

29 Moses and Aaron brought together all the elders of the Israelites, 30 and Aaron told them everything the Lord had said to Moses. He also performed the signs before the people, 31 and they believed. And when they heard that the Lord was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped. Exodus 4:29-31
