Heroes: Life Lessons from Faith Champions

Part 8: David

Guest Speaker: Will Oswald

On hearing the Philistine’s words, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified. 1 Samuel 17:11

45 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”  1 Samuel 17:45-47

Faith is depending on God’s

Faith in God doesn’t always prevent or difficulty.

He said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, or lay my hand on him; for he is the anointed of the Lord.”With these words David sharply rebuked his men and did not allow them to attack Saul. And Saul left the cave and went his way. 1 Samuel 24:6-7

But David said to Abishai, “Don’t destroy him! Who can lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed and be guiltless? 10 As surely as the Lord lives,” he said, “the Lord himself will strike him, or his time will come and he will die, or he will go into battle and perish. 11 But the Lord forbid that I should lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed. Now get the spear and water jug that are near his head, and let’s go.” 1 Samuel 26:9-11

Faith is relying on God’s plan and trusting God’s .

13 Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” 2 Samuel 12:13

Faith is your sin and seeking forgiveness

Faith in Jesus removes the penalty of our sin.

Faith doesn’t eliminate the of our sin.

10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. Psalm 51:1–12

Faith is believing that God can your worst failures.

14 But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us… 16 “O Lord our God, even this material we have gathered to build a Temple to honor your holy name comes from you! It all belongs to you! 1 Chronicles 29:14, 16

Faith is using my life and my for God’s kingdom and God’s glory.

Sometimes you don’t get to see the results of your faith.

How can I be faithful?

1. Depend on God’s

2. Trust God’s

3. Recognize your and seek God’s forgiveness.

4. Believe that God can and use your worst failures.

5. Use your life and for His Kingdom.
