THE WARNING AGAINST HYPOCRISY
Jesus is interested that his disciples not only do what is , but that they do what is right for the .
1 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 6:1
HOW NOT TO GIVE
2 “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.” Matthew 6:2
Jesus does not say you give, but rather says you give. Jesus that his disciples will give.
Jesus says that when we give, we are to “sound no trumpet,” which is where we the get expression to not.
HOW TO GIVE GOD’S WAY
3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.” Matthew 6:3
Giving for the Christian should be so natural that we give without about it.
It is hard to be by others when nobody knows what you have given and when you do not even what you yourself have done.
THE MOTIVATION TO GIVE
4 “so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:4

One of the ways we are motivated to give is for the promise of . While many are uncomfortable with the idea of receiving rewards, Jesus teaches that there are rewards for those who give in and with the proper . Jesus references rewards in these four verses.
