Resolute: Pressing On When You Feel Like Giving Up Part 9 – Give Thanks!
November 19, 2023Resolute: Pressing On When You Feel Like Giving Up
Part 9 – Give Thanks!
Nehemiah 11-12
31 I had the leaders of Judah go up on top of the wall. I also assigned two large choirs to give thanks. Nehemiah 12:31
Three Ways We Can Give Thanks to God…
1)We Can Give to God. (Nehemiah 11:1-12:26)
Now the leaders of the people settled in Jerusalem. The rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of every ten of them to live in Jerusalem, the holy city, while the remaining nine were to stay in their own towns. 2 The people commended all who volunteered to live in Jerusalem. Nehemiah 11:1-2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1
Two Reasons We See Lists of People in Nehemiah:
- All who stepped up to in the work were sincerely !
- God what His people do to faithfully Him.
2) We Can Give Our to God. (Nehemiah 12:27-42)
27 At the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem, the Levites were sought out from where they lived and were brought to Jerusalem to celebrate joyfully the dedication with songs of thanksgiving and with the music of cymbals, harps and lyres. 28 The musicians also were brought together from the region around Jerusalem—from the villages of the Netophathites, 29 from Beth Gilgal, and from the area of Geba and Azmaveth, for the musicians had built villages for themselves around Jerusalem. 30 When the priests and Levites had purified themselves ceremonially, they purified the people, the gates and the wall. Nehemiah 12:27-30
31 I had the leaders of Judah go up on top of the wall. I also assigned two large choirs to give thanks. One was to proceed on top of the wall to the right, toward the Dung Gate. 32 Hoshaiah and half the leaders of Judah followed them,.. 36… with musical instruments prescribed by David the man of God. Ezra the teacher of the Law led the procession.
38 The second choir proceeded in the opposite direction. I followed them on top of the wall, together with half the people— Nehemiah 12:31-32;36;38
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. Colossians 3:1-3
43 …The sound of rejoicing in Jerusalem could be heard far away. Nehemiah 12:43
3) We Can Give Our to God. (Nehemiah 12:44-47)
44 At that time men were appointed to be in charge of the storerooms for the contributions, firstfruits and tithes. From the fields around the towns they were to bring into the storerooms the portions required by the Law for the priests and the Levites, for Judah was pleased with the ministering priests and Levites. 45 They performed the service of their God and the service of purification, as did also the musicians and gatekeepers, according to the commands of David and his son Solomon. 46 For long ago, in the days of David and Asaph, there had been directors for the musicians and for the songs of praise and thanksgiving to God. 47 So in the days of Zerubbabel and of Nehemiah, all Israel contributed the daily portions for the musicians and the gatekeepers. They also set aside the portion for the other Levites, and the Levites set aside the portion for the descendants of Aaron. Nehemiah 12:44-47
18… They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. Philippians 4:18.
16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Hebrews 13:16
5 …They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us. 2 Corinthians 8:5
