Part 11 – Being Lifted Up!
1 Peter 5:5-11
5 In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,
“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11 To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 5:5-11

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” Genesis 3:1
How do we withstand the devil’s attacks? Peter gives us two practical lessons:
- him. 8 Be alert and of sober mind. 1 Peter 5:8a.
- him. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, 1 Peter 5:9a.
7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7.
17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Ephesians 6:17-18

- You are given He is the God of all grace. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16
- You are promised He is the God who called you to his eternal glory in Christ. 33 …In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33b.
- You are guaranteed He is the God who limits your suffering. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 2 Corinthians 4:17
- You are developing He is the God who will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
3 …we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. Romans 5:3-4.
