A New Thing

Isaiah 43:16-19

Guest Speaker: Dan Roseman

Three Phases of God’s New Work

It’s good to remember God’s faithfulness; we need it for encouragement. But do not let His past faithfulness keep you from noticing His work today.

1) God them of His faithfulness.

16 This is what the Lord says—

he who made a way through the sea,

a path through the mighty waters,

17 who drew out the chariots and horses,

    the army and reinforcements together,

and they lay there, never to rise again,

extinguished, snuffed out like a wick: Isaiah 43:16-17

Past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior.

2) God them from the past.

18 “Forget the former things;

do not dwell on the past. Isaiah 43:18

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

Dwelling on the past, even over something good, can blind you to Gods faithfulness now.

3) God a new work.

19 See, I am doing a new thing!

Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?

I am making a way in the wilderness

and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:19

Slavery in Egypt and exile in Babylon had very different causes, but both were ended because of God’s faithfulness.
